Prepaid cell phone plans may be better deal - Chicago Tribune

Friday, August 29th, 2008

With the buzz about new wireless phone plans that feature unlimited minutes, an important point can be lost: Most people don’t need an unlimited plan. In fact, many consumers would be better off switching from a regular monthly bill to a pay-as-you …

Resolved Question: Cell Phone Service Plans?

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Right now, I have Virgin Mobile’s 24.99 plan. It comes with 200 anytime minutes and 500 night and weekend minutes. I also don’t sign a contract. The only thing I have to pay for is the 24.99 plus sales tax. The coverage is pretty bad though. Thats not my main concern but I’d like it to be a little better. I live in lower michigan by detroit. There just has to be a better deal, i know! I called Alltell, to see if i could get there AlltellU Prepaid service but they didn’t have coverage in my area. What I’m looking for is Unlimited Night and Weekend Minutes and some anytime minutes (200 or more)(or pay per minute) I’ve looked up all the plans and the only one that could be close was Alltell’s 75 cents a day. I also need unlimited text plans, or 1000 texts for a little amount of money. I would be willing to pay up to $35, but i’d prefer it to be under $30.00. I don’t care if its billed, i just don’t want a contact. Thanx for you help!

Resolved Question: Virgin Mobile or MetroPCS? Are their phones compatible?

Friday, August 29th, 2008

I’m switching over to a prepaid cell phone service without the stupid long-term contract. I’m currently considering Virgin Mobile and MetroPCS. I’m in Los Angeles.

Virgin Mobile has outstanding customer service. Their phones are nicer and affordable.

The unlimited plans from MetroPCS are simply too awesome, but their phones are ridiculously expensive. I’ve also heard that their services are awful.

So I’m looking for advice and recommendations from people who have had experience with both or either company.

Which would you recommend: Virgin Mobile or MetroPCS?
Also, are cell phones from Virgin Mobile and MetroPCS compatible with each others?

Both companies use CDMA networks.

Virgin Mobile reps told me that their phones are not compatible, and I MUST buy and use their phones.

MetroPCS said otherwise. MetroPCS told me that I would just have to bring a compatible CDMA handset from another company into a store, and they would ”flash” it for $30.

Does anyone here know who’s right and who’s wrong?
